A Sorbet customer tells us why her Turkish woven throw has been a hit around the home this summer…

In true British style, the summer has proven to be somewhat unpredictable so far this year! Here in Devon we’ve had glorious sunshine (yes!), rain, humidity to rival any jungle, a bit more rain, and I’m sure I saw some sleet in June. I hadn’t thought a woven throw would be all that necessary in the summer, but it’s actually come in pretty handy these last couple of months.

So why is a Turkish throw perfect for the summer?

Well, apart from its on-trend herringbone weave pattern, what immediately struck me about my Sorbet throw was how different it feels to thick, woollen throws. These Turkish throws are made of finely woven cotton, which makes them soft and silky to touch.

That soft, lightweight feel coupled with its size (large enough to comfortably fit over a king size bed) makes it an ideal blanket for summer nights. You know, those summer nights that are too warm for a duvet, but a bit chilly for just a sheet? I’m forever waking-up too hot, or too cold in the middle of the night, but my Turkish woven throw kept me at just about the right temperature.

And snuggling up in my Turkish throw meant I could also enjoy summer evenings for longer…

What I love most about the summer are those brief spells of warmth where we can pretend we all live in some Mediterranean climate, dig out our chimeneas from the back of the shed and enjoy the al fresco lifestyle long into the night. I live for those balmy summer nights. I think I was designed for something warmer than the British climate though, because at the first hint of a chill in the air I’m retreating back inside (what a wimp). That’s why I’ve loved having my Turkish throw around this summer. It’s so snuggly and soft to cuddle-up in whilst sipping a glass of wine in the garden and chatting long into the small hours.

I have to admit, I haven’t ventured out camping so far this summer. I’ve got a toddler in tow, that’s my excuse. But I do intend to at some point, and I’m definitely taking my Turkish woven throw. It rolls up far more compactly than a duvet, so it’ll be perfect as an extra blanket if our sleeping bags aren’t warm enough. Or as a picnic rug for trips to the beach. Ahhh, I’m imagining family campfires, wrapped up in our Turkish throw, toasting marshmallows. All very idyllic, I’m sure. I think I’ll go plan that camping trip now…
